Ni Mas, Ni Meno

The work Ni Mas, Ni Menos uses the painting “Finis Gloriae Mundi” by Juan de Valdés Leal as a point of departure. In the inspirational work the choice of salvation or damnation is graphically offered in the scale that appears above the corpses: Ni Mas (nothing more) than worldly pursuits is needed for perdition. On the other side of the balance are instruments of prayer and penance: Ni Menos (nothing less) is needed to save the soul. In my allegorical interpretation the man will be his own measure, constantly attempting to reach an equilibrium within himself. One of the scales will contain his Self, constantly being measured against himself while he struggles to arrive at a balance of himself.
